Dear Fellow Democrat:
We cordially invite you to join us for the 2012 Annual Chairman’s
Awards Banquet on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Tom’s Country Place in
Avon, with cocktails from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm and the dinner and
program from 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm.
As you know this annual event is an opportunity to acknowledge
outstanding Democratic activists and leaders and to gather after the
primary election to celebrate being Democrats and remind us all that
the real challenge is the fall election.
It is an exciting and challenging election year featuring the
re-election of President Obama, Senator Sherrod Brown, Congresswoman
Marcy Kaptur, State Representatives Matt Lundy and Dan Ramos, County
Commissioners Ted Kalo and Lori Kokoski, county officials Judy
Nedwick, Ron Nabakowski, Phil Stammitti, Dennis Will, Dan Talarek
and Ken Carney, and judges Ray Ewers, Jim Miraldi and Jim Burge. We
have two new congressional candidates, Jim Slone in the newly formed
District 4 and Joyce Healy-Abrams in the new District 7, and Matt
Lark in the new Ohio House District 57. Finally, John Miraldi is
seeking the vacant seat on the Common Pleas bench and Lisa Swenski
and Frank Janik are the nominees for two vacancies on the Domestic
Relations Court. This year we are proud to announce that we will
recognize the Lorain County Young Democrats and the Oberlin City
Democratic Club as our Activists of the Year. We are also honoring
Thomas J. Smith, who has served as our chairman for 20 years and
John Piskura, former Mayor of Sheffield Lake and Co-Chair of the
Sheffield Democratic Club. We are pleased and honored to have as
our Keynote Speaker this year the renowned Leo W. Gerard,
International President of the United Steel Workers. We have
